Holidays on Ice by David Sedaris
Reviewed by Jade Crabtree

If you think your holiday experiences have been crazy, just listen to David Sedaris recount some of his best (worst) memories. I highly recommend listening to this on Overdrive (read by Sedaris himself) in order to get the full effect. Sedaris’ writing is biting and laugh out loud funny. The author covers everything from his time as an elf to spending Halloween in the medical examiner’s office. You will laugh, cry and maybe pee a little listening to this.

Nine Stories by J.D. Salinger

Reviewed by Morgan Hayes

Nine Stories, like the title suggests, is a collection of nine short stories, by J.D. Salinger. The stories in this volume include “A Perfect Day for Bananafish” and “For Esme – with Love and Squalor,” which are two of Salinger’s most famous stories. Like most of Salinger’s work, these stories feature some sort of twist ending that reflects on a different social commentary.

Three of the short stories deal with the fictional Glass Family, which Salinger created. More can be read about them in the books Raise High the Roof Beams Carpenters and Seymour; An Introduction and Franny and Zooey.

Nine Stories is excellent for anyone looking for a quick but intriguing read. If you are just looking for a few stories to read from this volume then I highly recommend “The Laughing Man” and “De Daumier-Smith’s Blue Period,” as well as “A Perfect Day for Bananafish.”
