A Killing in the Hills by Julia Keller is set in the fictional town of Acker’s Gap, West Virginia, and centers around Bell Elkins, the prosecuting attorney for Raythune County, WV. Bell and Sheriff Nick Fogelsong are battling the spate of drug violence plaguing poor areas of the county. When three elderly men were gunned down over coffee at a local diner, Bell’s daughter witnessed the murder. As Carla began to recover from the shock, she believed that she might be able to help her mother. This placed her in jeopardy by the killer. As the plot unfolds, Bell proves over and over how strong she is and what she has overcome in her own life.
This book keeps you rooted to your seat as the story unfolds with some surprising twists that are totally unexpected.
